About the Event
The Longest Table is coming to Rocky Mount, and we want you to be a part of this exciting movement!
Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, a group in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York planned an event to bring neighbors together for an outdoor potluck meal around a single long table. Each neighbor brought a dish to share, and The Longest Table was born. Now, a nationwide movement to strengthen relationships and build community around a free shared meal is sweeping across all 50 states.
The Harrison Family Y is excited to bring The Longest Table movement to our community! We are planning an event for Thursday, April 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Kel Landis III Pavilion. We invite you and your church family to join us for this opportunity to bring the Rocky Mount community together for food and friendship. There is no cost for anyone to attend and eat, but we need your support to make this event happen.
Here's how you can help:
*Register to be a Table Captain. Table Captains are individuals or small groups who sponsor tables by providing food, paper goods (plates, napkins, cups, flatware), and beverages for themselves plus a few more people. You can choose a theme, decorate your table, or keep it super simple. It's up to you. Table Captains will set up your table, attend the event, and enjoy a meal with neighbors. If you are interested in serving as a Table Captain, please let us know, and we will send more details. We would like to have Table Captains confirmed by April 2.
*Help us spread the word. We will provide print and digital promotional materials that can be shared through your organization's network, in newsletters, on websites, and on social media. We will need the help of community partners and friends to help get the word out.
*Serve as a volunteer for set up and clean up. We will need volunteers from the community to help in a variety of ways. If you are interested in getting more involved, let us know.
*Bring a meal, eat a meal, give a meal! Make a financial contribution to support the work of the Harrison Family YMCA’s Food Insecurity Program. If you would like to make a donation, you can visit Ways to Give | Harrison Family YMCA, contact the Y at (252) 972-9622, or bring a canned good as a donation for our food box program.
Join us in helping to make The Longest Table a meaningful and successful event for the Rocky Mount community. We look forward to hearing back from you about how you would like to become involved.
