From cradle to career, the Y provides all youth with the tools and resources they need to succeed in life. The Y.™ For a better us.™ Check out our programs below for youth.
Sports and Recreation
BUILDING SKILLS AND DEVELOPING CHARACTER
The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ will carry with them throughout their lives. The benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to build the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out. We offer seasonal youth sports including basketball, flag football and soccer. Our year round youth programs include gymnastics, karate and home school physical education. Register for one of our programs and watch your child grow.
RMY Racers Swim Team
DIVE IN, STAND OUT!
Our Racers Swim Team is a competitive swimming organization providing the finest instruction and training to participants in Rocky Mount, NC and the surrounding areas. This year round program gives youth a chance to experience success and achievement through a wholesome, healthy activity. The Racers Swim Team is a member of USA Swimming, the national governing body of the most successful Olympic sport in history, as well as the Greater Sunbelt Swim Association and the East Carolina Swim League.
STRONG SWIMMERS, CONFIDENT KIDS
At the Y, we take pride in teaching the ins and outs of learning to swim. All participants will be sure to build more and more confidence with each and every stroke! This swim lesson curriculum will help bridge the gap between learning to swim and water safety. Parents can also use our Lesson Selector to easily determine stage placement for where their child will start. Also, each child gets to take a photo on our Achievement Banner after passing their session!
LEARN TO SAVE LIVES IN THE WATER
Lifeguard Certification and Recertification: This is a 31.5 hour course that teaches lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course includes First Aid, AED training, and CPR for the professional rescuer. All participants must be 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled lesson of the course, and the participant must be a strong swimmer able to swim 300 yards continuously, using freestyle and breaststroke. After successful completion of the course, the individual will be a certified lifeguard.
